When Life Deals You Scraps

what can you do?  Well, if your scraps are less  than 3/4" wide you can't use them in a string quilt.  But you can roll them into a ball
and knit them!
Thanks to Melinda for providing all the scraps.

I crocheted a rug like this. The pattern called for something like 20 yards cut into 1" strips. So I had way more than 20 yards in strips, I started crocheting, and ran out, got some more scraps, ran out. Finally I realized it was 20 yards of full fabric cut into 1" strips. Good thing I had lot of scraps in bags, cus that would make an expensive throw rug! I love how it turned out.

What size kneedles? is it hard to do because the fabric doesn't have as much stretch as yarn? how big is it?

It is so pretty I want to start right now!

Hi Denise, you haven't left an email address for me to reply to personally. However, the needles are 10mm, but the size is of no consequence. Just make them BIG. The fabric knits very much like yarn, so it is not difficult, but it does seem to want to twist so that the colour ends on the wrong side. There are about 60 stitches on my piece and that is around 0.5m wide or 20".

I've been thinking of actually cutting up some fabric I'll probably never use on a quilt and crocheting a rug or making a braided rug out of them.

I've seen the balls before and thought that they'd make a nice little display in a basket. Even kids could do it.
